Newspaper report from Jim Cairney - The Grousebeater It is nice to report that we managed to get in all three scheduled competitions this week, it was one of those times when all the bad weather occurred on the days when it did not matter to much. In Tuesday's Club Night Competition, it was Andy Compton who once again featured in the prizes, on this occasion he came in third with a score of 38 points. This was bettered by one point by our esteemed President, Mike Kenna, but even he could not get near Peter Langridge, who returned a total of 42 points to take the top position on the day. I have to say that when I looked at the forecast for Saturday I was prepared for the worst, so it was a very pleasant surprise as to how nice a day it turned out by the time I teed off in the early afternoon. The Club had put on a 4BBB, and if Rab Millar and Tony Beggs-Cairney not missed two easy putts on 17 and 18 then they would have been the ones who would have been tucking into the fresh, succulent Turkey Breasts that have been put up as prizes by Tommy Campbell Butchers for all the winners of the next few week`s competitions, instead it will be Johnathon Bradley and Juan Kinvig who will be going out to buy some sage and onion stuffing, their score of 46 points was good enough to push John Clark and Andy Compton into second place, due to them having a better back nine. Tony Blunden and Ray Hicks had to settle for a packet of Turkey flavoured crisps after finishing third. Sunday saw the next round of the Absolute Scaffolding sponsored Winter League, and once again we saw a lovely day weather wise, in third place was the pairing of Ryan Edge and Callum Stewart, second position went to Jackie Murley and Max Neale, the top slot went to Kevin Walton and Michael Phillbin, who finished the day with a fine score of 46 points. Whilst I think it is early days, I would not be surprised if this pairing were not in the running, come the end of the league. I look forward to seeing you at the weekend, when once again we will have a change of winning some of Tommy Campbells Turkey breasts. Jim. |
