The Grousebeater
There was once again a very impressive turnout for last Tuesdays Shoprite league, with nearly one hundred guys taking part in the third round of the Competition. I am sure all of them would have enjoyed playing on the Greens, as they are now back to the great condition they were in for last year’s Championships. The whole course looks great at the moment so I think we should pass our thanks on to Murray and his hard-working team for all their efforts.
In the comp itself, it was Joedy Scarffe who secured third place with 38pts, Cameron Pringle managed to better that with a score of 40pts to take second, but it was a new member who has just recently joined who took the top spot on the day with a Total of 42pts, Thomas Collister is one of many new members who have joined us recently, so what a lovely way to start by winning your first comp at the Club. Well done to Thomas and I hope he enjoys being a member at Douglas.
The final round of the Hutchinson Cup was held on Saturday, On the day itself it was Neil Harris who took the top spot with a nett score of 63, but it was the guy in second place who got his hands on the Trophy. A fine score of nett 64, combined with his score from last week of 70 was good enough to see that it will be Scott Rotheram`s name that will be inscribed on the Cup for this year. In second place was John Oates with a combined score of 136, and an honourable mention should go to ex captain, Simon Colquitt for his score of 137. When the dust had settled, and all the scores were counted it showed that only five guys played to their Handicaps over the two weeks. So, this was a true test of Golf for ever one. In the Lowest Gross section, it was Rob Noon who took the honours with a nett total of 143.
As am sure you will all know, there was no Golf played on Sunday due to the horrendous weather.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everybody that was due to go on the Golf Trip in May to Chester that we will be holding the Cairney Cup and the Joe Spence Cup at Douglas instead. If they go on to Pully 19th they can see the dates for it. All the guys who went on the trip in the past are welcome to play in it this year. |
And The Streak Continues Dustin Johnson is a remarkable golfer. Sorry for stating the obvious – he is third in the Official World Golf Rankings after all – but his record speaks for itself. His victory at the weekend was his 21st in total. It was also the 13th season in a row that DJ has won on the PGA Tour. To put that into perspective, only Palmer (17), Nicklaus (17) and Woods (14) boast a better record to start off their careers. The only question mark hanging over his head is his inability to get over the line in Major championships, with just a sole U.S. Open victory to his name thus far. Maybe the big-hitting American is finding his form at the perfect time with an exciting few months ahead in the world of golf. If you're looking for more consistency in your game, we can certainly help. Send us a message via the button below.
